Orewa Bridge Club
Easy to start, hard to stop

Bridge is one of those games that keeps drawing people back because no two hands are ever quite the same.

Every deal brings a new problem to solve. You look at your cards, listen to the bidding, watch the play, and try to work out what is happening around the table. Sometimes the answer is obvious. Sometimes it reveals itself slowly, one card at a time.

That is part of the fun. Bridge rewards curiosity. The more you learn, the more you notice. A small clue in the bidding, an unexpected card from an opponent, or a clever play by your partner can completely change the way you see the hand.
small cluesBridge is also addictive because it is never finished. You can learn the basics quite quickly, but there is always another layer waiting. Better bidding, sharper defence, clearer communication with partner, stronger card play — every session gives you something new to practise.
Then there is the partnership side. Bridge is not a solo game. You and your partner are trying to understand each other, trust each other, and make good decisions together. When a partnership gets a hand right, it is very satisfying.
There is also the pleasure of the table itself. Bridge is sociable without being noisy, competitive without needing to be fierce, and thoughtful without being lonely. You meet people, share a challenge, and enjoy the small dramas that unfold in each hand.

And, of course, bridge has just enough mystery to keep you hooked. You never see all the cards at once. You have to remember, infer, guess, test, and adjust. That makes every hand feel like a puzzle, a conversation, and a contest all at the same time.

That is why so many players start with “just one session” and find themselves still playing years later.

Bridge keeps your mind active, your friendships growing, and your curiosity alive. Once it gets under your skin, it is very hard to stop.
