The Learning & Development Subcommittee helps the Club attract, teach and retain new bridge players, while supporting the ongoing development of existing members.
A key focus of the subcommittee is the Club’s development programme for existing and new members. Courses based on NZ Bridge beginner lessons are normally run twice each year. The subcommittee supports the planning, advertising and delivery of these lessons, including ensuring that workbooks, teaching materials and other resources are available.
The subcommittee also monitors how successful the lessons are in encouraging learners to continue playing bridge and become Club members. It reviews attendance, retention through the lesson programme, transition into supervised or regular play, and conversion to membership.
Using this information, together with historical costs and experience from other bridge clubs, the subcommittee makes recommendations to the Committee on lesson pricing, promotion, support for learners and future development opportunities.
In addition, improvement programmes are provided across a range of topics to develop members at all levels, with senior players sharing tips and experience via club communications.
The aim is simple: to help more people learn bridge, enjoy bridge, and become confident, active members of the Club.
