Calling the Director is a normal part of duplicate bridge. It does not mean someone is in trouble, and it is not a complaint. It simply means there is a question about the correct procedure.

If something unusual happens, a bid out of turn, an exposed card, a lead from the wrong hand, uncertainty about an explanation, or a scoring issue, the right thing to say is:

“Director, please.”

That is all that is needed. Please do not try to fix the problem yourselves at the table, even with the best intentions. The Director is there to explain the options, apply the rules fairly, and help the table continue calmly.

Calling the Director protects everyone. It avoids guesswork, prevents misunderstandings, and makes sure the same procedure is followed for all players.

So please do not be embarrassed to call. Say “Director, please” clearly and politely, then wait for the Director to come to the table.
